The Five Knits Worth Building A Wardrobe Around
Most closets have too many sweaters and not enough knits that actually get worn. The difference is structure: a handful of well-chosen shapes will carry you from the first cool morning to the last one in spring. These are the five we'd build around.
1. The oversized cable knit. The anchor of any autumn wardrobe. Cable texture adds depth without pattern, so it pairs with everything — jeans, midi skirts, tailored pants. Worn slightly oversized, it does the relaxed-elegant thing effortlessly. Our Sloane™ is this knit exactly: substantial, structured, and cut to be worn roomy.
2. The longline cardigan. The hardest-working layer you'll own. Long enough to cover the hip, open enough to show the outfit underneath, warm enough to replace a jacket indoors. Throw it over anything and you look finished. The Lottie™ — chunky, open-front, with a relaxed lantern sleeve — is our version, and it goes up to 5XL because a great cardigan should fit everyone.
3. The sweater dress. One piece, zero decisions. Add boots and you're dressed; add a gilet on top and you're dressed for the weather. Look for a knit with real weight — thin sweater dresses cling, substantial ones skim. The Margaux™ is cut with that skim in mind, in sizes S through 3XL.
4. The knit you can wear to dinner. Every wardrobe needs one knit that works when jeans won't. A refined gauge, a clean neckline, a color like deep wine or forest — the sweater you reach for when the invitation says "casual" but you know better.
5. The cape or poncho. The most underrated layer in knitwear. No sleeves means no fit anxiety — it's one size that genuinely suits every body, and it turns a plain base layer into an outfit. Ours is the Birdie™, and it's the piece we'd hand to anyone who says layering isn't for them.
Choose slowly, wear forever. Five good knits beat twenty mediocre ones. Check the size chart on each product page — measurements are listed flat, in inches, with honest fit notes — and build the collection one piece at a time.
